Pordenone, 12th June 2024_ Last year, during the celebrations for the 30th Anniversary of the race organized by Fuoristrada Club 4x4 Pordenone, Mauro Tavella came up with the idea of an Italian Baja’s Champions Cup, to assign to the recordman of the new millennium. The challenge then was between Nasser Al Attiyah and Yazeed Al Rajhi, both with 3 victories up their sleeve. The duel was decided in the last selective sector with Al Attiyah slowed by the failure of the front differential and Al Rajhi that at that point was able to only focus on managing the wide margin until the finishing.
Fourth seal for the Saudi driver: after gaining the same number of victories as Pierre Lartigue, that dominated from 1994 to 1997, he took home the Champions Cup of the Italian Baja - that will have to come up with another special Cup for the “manita”, but this year the record of victories will remain untouched. Since it is basically impossible to assume any extra European participation able to endanger the record holder. Al Rajhi and Al Attiyah can come back in the future, but in the meantime there’s space for new suitors… maybe someone could bring back the passion, here in Pordenone. Without excluding the possibility, not too realistic, that some Italian driver could repeat the pioneristic success of Edi Orioli (1993) and the challenge of Franco Germanetti (2000). Yes, this would be an amazing “treble”.
